Albany Nightlife
Although the nightlife in Albany isn’t exactly raging, the abundance of backpackers and vacationing cityfolk has contributed to a lively late-night scene.
• Nsomniax Lounge ( 08 9841 7688), corner of York St. and Stirling Terr. For those hoping to shake it. Open late on weekends and keeps the party going when the pubs have closed. Cover $8 when busy (roughly after 11:30pm). Open F-Sa 11pm-3:30am.
• The Premier Hotel, 208 York St. ( 08 9841 1544). This hotel has two bars—the bar in front offers some variety in its tap beer selection, and looks out on the street. The back bar has pool tables and a big screen for sporting events. Live music on weekends (check for cover price). M-Th noon-6pm “down 3, get 1 free” promo for all of their tap beers.
• The Hotel Albany, York St. ( 08 9842 3337). Pleasant al fresco veranda and an airy indoor bar and restaurant. Happy hour M-Th 11am-noon, 5-6pm; middies $2.50. Open M-W and Su 10am-late, Th-Sa 9:30am-late.
• The Earl of Spencer ( 08 9841 1322; www.earlofspencer.com.au), on the corner of Earl and Spencer St. Historic pub with cozy English feel and great foreign beer selections. The hearty “Earl’s Famous Pie and Pint” ($18) shares the menu with lighter fare including soups and salads. Open M-Sa noon-midnight, Su 2-9pm. AmEx/MC/V.
• Tanglehead Brewing Company, 72 Stirling Terr. ( 08 9841 1733; www.tanglehead.com.au). Demure storefront contrasts with trendy modern microbrewery inside. Hand-crafted brews on tap for $7-8.50 per pint. Th open mic night. Live music most Fridays and Saturdays. Open M-Sa 11am-midnight, Su 11am-10pm.
